2 sim is a phrase the references mobile phones with two sim cards to describe people of mixed heritage, dual nationality or multiple residence. after being called 2 sim in conversation with a stranger while on a walk through freetown (a recording of this moment features on the record) duval began to explore what the 2 sim experience is in contemporary west-africa. 2 sim ep was created from 2 months of field recordings and interviews with family, friends and peers in freetown sierra leone. these site specific recordings are collaged with solo piano recordings and production recorded in sierra leone and the uk. the ep is accompanied by a short film/ music video of the same name which duval shot and directed whilst making the record. 2 sim ep is the second release from carrying colour which follows on from 2017 s sen am -

up next on phonica white is brooklyn based artist justin cudmore. he is a well-known dj thanks to his memorable sessions at the bunker among other new york and many of the best clubs worldwide as well as teaming up with mike servito and gunnar haslam as hot mix dj collective. as well as djing, justin has always been a fan and creator of dance music, he started being part of chicago’s underground scene, deepening his appreciation for the classic house and acid that you can still feel in these new tracks. this new release follows in the wake of ‘forget it’, his last celebrated ep released by the bunker though in our minds his sound has progressed yet again, sounding fuller, faster and rounder. ‘twisted love’ gets straight to the point, with firm and strong percussion joined to a fickle acid bass line. in addition to this, justin weaves in some house-flavoured vocals to keep you hooked until the end of the track. a certified floor-filler of a track. on the flip is ‘about to burst’, a track that starts with a powerful kick drum and grows with new emerging elements, punchy hi-hats coming and going in key moments and a simple keyboard arpeggio that added to an acid bass line catches you instantly. justin’s new ep is unapologetically aimed at the dancefloor. its primary influence may be detroit-flavoured techno yet you’ll also find chicago house and acid elements floating over its powerful backbone, all combining in devastating way, primed for club use. artwork as always is supplied by the talented pedro carvalho de almeida.

the latest release on arma comes from dutch legend and devoutly deviant underground operator ruud lekx, aka rude 66. with a legacy that reaches back to the early 90s and the rough and ready dutch electro sound of bunker records and the hague, hes maintained a distinctly non-conformist approach that touches on acid, italo, techno and more besides, all finished with the punky attitude that sets him and peers like unit moebius and i-f apart. the tracks gathered together on the witch trials ep come from throughout lekxs career. as the artist himself says, tracks from wildly different eras and sessions suddenly can combine to form one coherent ep. its almost like the a-side tracks were waiting for 20 years to be combined with the b-side tracks. the overriding theme that binds together these timeless machine excursions is that of medieval witch trials a global phenomenon that peaked in the 15-1600s. considering the suspicion, propaganda and mass moral panic involved in this strange curio of distant history, lekx points to the parallels with the current age, of political polarization and fake news accusations flying all over. the ep title is also a tribute to two records close to his heart: the falls live at the witch trials, and the one-off witch trials project by members of the dead kennedys, adrian borland and christian lunch. werewolves & poisoners and the crusade against idolatry are both archive tracks from the 1994-5 period when lekx made his first albums for bunker records.

radio slaves reissue label, r-time, returns with an in demand re-release of his timeless remixes of peace division’s legendary blacklight sleaze (ft pleasant gehman). originally released on nrk in 2006, ‘blacklight sleaze landed at a time when peace division (justin drake & clive henry) was lauded as one of most bankable acts in house music having notched up a truly remarkable catalogue that helped define the genre from the late 90s onwards. later that year, the pleasant gehman spoken vocal led cut was treated to a series of remixes from radio slave, another act who had firmly developed a similarly revered status in the scene. these futuristic remixes, now fully re-mastered and sounding better than ever, take blacklight sleaze to another level with thundering kicks, a pitch-perfect arrangement and tightrope balance between foreboding house and bone-shaking techno. a huge anthem at berghain, these remixes have been a favourite weapon in the record bags of many techno djs, not to mention a regular fixture in nina kraviz and rodhads sets now seems the perfect time for more blacklight sleaze

wolves bay returns with a new pack of tracks continuing his intriguing deep sound.

yama music return with their second instalment on their own self-titled label, with yet more trippy minimal house music. as with the first record, yama music 002 brings 3 original cuts which are stripped back groove aimed at the dancefloor. the uk based label kick things off with “outstore”, eerie pads sit on top of tight stripped back drums which have a glitchy atmospheric synth adding to the cosmic feel of this record. the b side are two tracks that follow a similar pattern but retain their individuality. the first of these is “who what space”, this track is propelled along with a bone shaking yet infectious bassline, crisp percussion and an otherworldly synth. “who what toms” wraps up the ep with delicate shuffling percussion, a tight kick drum and a sexy bassline ready to make the dancefloor hum. a well placed vocal and a synth that sounds like it’s taken from the starship enterprise rounds off a great return for yama music.

visionquest return to their special edition vinyl-only series and welcome a new friend to the family: greek craftsman bodj. following a remarkable run of releases on the likes of his own audiorama and memoria earlier this year, the athens-based dj continues his vein of form with these four wide-ranging tracks... ‘parusha’ takes the lead with warm tones and textures. airy pads and an insatiable chicago-like bump to the voluptuous bassline ensure this grabs full attention the moment it enters the mix. it’s backed by three other vital cuts that express bodj’s true breadth and vision: ‘miaplacidus’ celebrates one of the brightest stars in the night sky with a stripped back, sub heavy hypnotic groove, ‘phantom’ kicks with timeless house dynamics that subtly evolve, twist, turn and fold into each other over its eight minute journey before we end with the wonderfully titled ‘trip to planet love’. once again showing bodj’s scope and stylistic flexibility, it closes the show with a hip-wriggling electro twist. slinky breakbeats, bubbling bass and a space-age feel, it’s every bit as cosmic and full of love as its title suggests. a perfect way to end another perfect visionquest trip. happy travels..

the arrival of fresh material from visions co-owner stephane attias is a nice welcome return . these two tracks from swiss based dj and producer are aimed to simply heat the dance floors . these two pure deep house tracks are full of musicality and rich deepness that will keep the dancers happy. on the a side « body fusion is a melodious number with deep drums , lush pads over deep synth and bass , rhodes chords, piano solo and organic percussions the b side is a soulful melodious and organic jazz house track with fender rhodes , sub bass and summer vibe to keep a smile on your face. a solid release not to be missed !

hove’s first record on light of other days gets a second pressing. the first pressing was self-distributed and only 150 copies were made. enjoy! hove’s debut ep is full of fuzzy melodies fused with shimmering arpeggios and reduced cosmic beats. produced at the light of other days headquarters in the heart of zurich, hove developed his sound out of various live-jams, which he recorded onto a tascam cassette recorder. these recordings alongside numerous field recordings build the foundation of the ep journey to arendal. influenced by the sound aesthetic of early electronic producers from the 80’s and 90’s, as well as contemporary house, disco or techno, hove’s music always has a certain kind of warmth to it. dusty, shuffling grooves meet woozy guitar chords while crystal clear synth melodies are paired with field recordings of rivers, birds or nocturnal city atmospheres. journey to arendal is out on january 29th, 2016 on light of other days.

despite the short period as producer of kolpos, the first steps of this argentinan producer have became large strides and his experience to develop big magnitude projects consolidates with great celerity, argument more than justified for platforms as concerns music which bet for artist with a very defined personality. fractal recreates the international connection that techno is living in these moments between europe and latin american countries with a more globalized style , it represents the synergestic link between two cultures and a relative approach of hemispheres.

the law of seven refers to the spiritualist philosopher gurdjieffs idea that the evolution of phenomena proceeds according to a universal seven-step process. clay tells us that while this idea did not strictly factor into the composition of these tracks, you could abstract some elements into the musical creation process. gurdjieff was quite a thinker, but also composed music so i thought the lines i was drawing carried some weight. in particular his notion that creation proceeds through increasing restrictions which i find to be incredibly relevant to my process at least. time limitations and performance settings particularly seem to allow me to be far more productive than just working freely with no solid end point in mind
